Volume Ramping Routine…
The Volume Ramping Program is a unique training program that increases the volume of sets performed week by week. This is in addition to striving for progressive overload by increasing the weights you lift.
Basically you’ll start off with a low volume workout and over the course of a few weeks build up the workout volume to a peak. Then drop the volume back down and repeat the cycle.
The theory behind this style of volume ramping is that your body will be on the edge of overtraining at the peak of the high volume phase, and then you’ll immediately drop the volume back down. This will allow your body to over compensate for the stresses of the high volume training and use its energy for muscle growth.
It’s the same idea of how bodybuilders will carb deplete for a few days and then carb load for a few days before a bodybuilding contest. When the body is in a carb depleted state and then immediately gets an abundance of carbs it will overcompensate and store extra carbs and glycogen in the muscle cells.
You’ll use the same exercises for each bodypart during the 4 week cycle. Then for your next 4 week volume ramp cycle you can use different exercises for each bodypart. Make sure to choose big compound exercises.
I have used this training approach several times over the years in my own training with solid results each cycle through. Every time I’d see new muscle gains with each volume ramping cycle. Progress is very predictable and easy to monitor with this workout because the variables are all constant except for the number of sets you perform each week.
